Palatino and the Roman Forum

Today we visited Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum and all that ancient ruins that entails. This is just below the Colosseum, out of the main part of the city.

the group walking through more archways

One of the huge courtyards that was probably magnificent in its time.

These coffers are similar to the ones in the Pantheon. Remember Tuesday's post?

The hill had great views as well. Hey, look, the Colosseum!

From here we have a view of what used to be the chariot racing grounds.

Now entering: the Roman Forum! There are a lot of really cool ruins, and victory arches, and columns and more!

Last we walked through the square Michelangelo designed for the emperor when he was expecting a visit from foreign royalty. Of course I liked this charging horse statue best!
